Specialties: I teach beginning fiddle and Great Highland Bagpipe lessons to kids and adults. The location can be either at my home, your home, or at Sylvan music in Westside Santa Cruz. My fiddle specialty is Celtic, plus a little old time and bluegrass. On fiddle I emphasize learning by ear, giving style to tunes learned from sheet music, using singing and percussion as tools for better fiddling, and learning how to interact with other musicians in a band. For bagpipes, we start on the practice chanter, learning fingerwork and how to understand bagpipe music.
